Some relaxation techniques!

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

Our mind is the best tool we humans have. It works just as we train it, and training your mind to relax is not very difficult. To relax your mind, consider meditation, relaxed breathing, practicing healthier habits like physical exercise, engaging in relaxing activities like listening to music, and avoiding or reducing common stress triggers like social media. When you find methods that work for you, cultivate and practice them often. In time, you'll be able to relax quickly and easily.

Meditation

Personally, I prefer to meditate during my stress phase. Meditation is a process where you focus your attention on an object, thought, or prayer (mantra). This helps clear your mind off the stress-causing thoughts and raises your awareness.

Yoga

Yoga is a discipline of mild physical exercises (known as asanas or postures). It is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It asks us to bring our attention to our breath, which helps us to still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment.

The Body Scan Practice

The body scan is a component of mindfulness meditation. You can begin the practice by lying on the floor, on a mat, or on your bed. Basically, you can begin by focusing your attention on the top of your head and then move down the body, or vice versa while observing the sensations in that area. The body scan trains your mind to be able to move from detailed attention to a wider and more spacious awareness from one moment to the next.

Visualization

Visualization is a meditative technique where you can impress your subconscious mind with positive images or animation to bring about those changes in your life experience. Visualization is a healthy way of bringing positive energy into your mind, body, and spirit, expanding your capacity for relaxation and creativity. Many university studies show that visualization has remarkable physical health benefits, including boosting immunity, easing depression, relieving insomnia, and decreasing stress.

Listen to Music

The soothing power of music is well-known. Music can have a profound effect on both the emotions and the body. Faster music can make you feel more alert and concentrate better. Upbeat music can make you feel more optimistic and positive about life. A slower tempo can quiet your mind and relax your muscles, making you feel soothed while releasing the stress of the day. It has a unique link to our emotions, so can be an extremely effective stress management tool.

Affirmations

Relaxation is made easy with the help of these positive affirmations. They will help you to unwind, let go of stress, and naturally calm your mind.

  1. I love being relaxed and detached.

  2. Finding time each day to relax and unwind is important to me.

  3. I have a naturally peaceful mind.

  4. Letting go of the tension in my life is rejuvenating.

  5. I can effortlessly let go of any negative thoughts, concerns, or worries.

  6. I enjoy nurturing myself with deep relaxation.

  7. Every day in every way I am getting better and better.

The positive affirmations provided here will help you to naturally relax your mind, release physical tension, and re-energize your whole being. Just calmly read over the affirmations and choose a few for yourself, then find a quiet spot to unwind and put them to use.

Aroma Therapy

Aromatherapy has gained quite a bit of attention in recent years. Studies have shown that specific essential oils used in aromatherapy can help relieve stress, relax the body, and promote better sleep. Aromatherapy is a nice tool for stress relief because it has few (if any) known side effects, can be used passively (you can fill the room with scent while you attend to other activities, relieving stress in the process), and can be easily combined with other stress relievers (like massage or meditation, for example), for increased stress relief.
